People of all genders have been conditioned by many societies to believe that sex and spirit have little or nothing to do with each other. Although such might not be the expressed intention of many religious sources, centuries of human beings have had difficulty imagining that the world of erotic passion has any kinship with the world of the sacred.

Men indeed do have spiritual lives, although “spiritual” might not align with conventional ideas of “spiritual” nor with the commonplace equation of “spiritual” and “religious.”
